Summary

This article presents an executive summary of the work undertaken by Optimus UK Ltd for
Aurelia Training Ltd, in providing both configuration work and ongoing support and maintenance for all aspects of their I.T. infrastructure, including networks, PCs, servers, Internet connectivity and home/office working connectivity.

The Case Study: Aurelia Training Ltd

Optimus UK Ltd were approached by Richard Lee, the Technical Director of Aurelia Training Ltd, and asked to quote for providing: 

1. Initial server setup and configuration work, including setting up MS Exchange Server, Active Directory and SQL Server.
   
   
2. Backup / Restore hardware and software and a Disaster Recovery option
   
   
3. Internet Access Configuration to support home/office working and Blackberry hand held device connectivity
   
   
4. Formal support contract  for the computer network  and Internet infrastructure
   

Aurelia have a workforce comprised of around 20 office based staff and 10 field staff, who require secure VPN Internet access to the office, for accessing their email and the file server.

The first stage of the work was to establish their server resources including an MS Exchange Server for email, MS SQL Server for Databases and also other file services and an Active Directory Domain Controller. An internal network was also created comprising a 100 MBit CAT-V cable backbone with addtional WLAN connectivity.

Following completion and testing of the intenal office networking, the various latop computers were aded to the Domain and user accounts created, configured and tested.

VPN connections were then added for home users and tested as was the setup for Blackberry communications with the Exchange Server. 

The entire server estate is protected against data loss using nightly backups to a Quantum LTO3 tape system and additional protection against hardware failure is provided using Ultrabac Image Backup/Disaster Recovery software with the option for immediate restore to a Virtual Machine hosted by Optimus.

Addtional Services

Aurelia had an urgent requirement to formalise their candidate records into a formal database and to be have specific query capabilities for selecting records by a range of factors.

Optimus developed an MS SQL database and provided easy to use data entry adn retrieval forms, using MS Access, with easy to use compound query builders, so that users can genereate the reports required.
