Vector Asset Manager Software Inventory
Software Inventory Data is essential for keeping track of what applications you have installed on PCs and managing software licence purchases and compliance.
The Asset Manager provides a range of methods of accessing this data
Inventory data is automatically collected each time the client PC starts and the "delta scan" operation ensures that minimal impact is seen by the PC user by only scanning for changes since the last scan.
Raw data is collected, encrypted and compressed and written to the offline area for later collation, interpretation and publishing in the data base. These operations are accomplished by scheduled jobs, run at suitable chosen intervals.
Software Identification Manager (SIM)
Software Inventory Data is accessible simply by right mouse clicking on any client and this opens the above view onto the Software Identification Manager. Data is listed under the following categories:
Confirmed Identifications
The Confirmed Identifications tab lists applications identified using the rules in the Applications Library.
The Clients view displays the directory location in which each installation of each application was detected. The Status field specifies whether the software has changed since the Client's previous software inventory.
Provisional Identifications
The Provisional Identifications tab lists applications identified using version information encoded in application files by the manufacturer.
Registry Identifications
During installation, most applications save information in the operating system in addition to installing executable files. The Registry Identifications tab lists applications identified using this system information.
Unidentified Software
During installation, most applications save information in the operating system in addition to installing executable files. The Registry Identifications tab lists applications identified using this system information.
Applications Library
The Applications Library identifies the applications installed on Client PCs. Each entry in the library contains the details of directories, files and file properties that uniquely identify an application. When you run a software inventory operation, Vector Asset Management checks the files detected on a Client against each entry in the library; if the files meet the criteria specified in an entry, the Software Identification Manager reports a confirmed installation of the application.
Application properties can be set for each application, including the licence limit. This will then be reflected in the compliance reports along with concurrent usage.
